Advantage Index

Where $0 Medicare Advantage plans are, and where they are not

Across the country, 52.9% of the Medicare Advantage plans on offer carry no monthly premium. That share is not spread evenly: it ranges from 19.3% to 100.0% between states.

Share of plan offerings with a $0 monthly premium, by state. A “plan offering” is one plan in one county, which is how CMS counts availability.

Premiums, deductibles, maximum out-of-pocket amounts, star ratings and sanctions are reproduced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services landscape file. Enrolment counts are from the CMS monthly enrolment file; CMS suppresses any count of ten or fewer, which is why many plans show “fewer than 11” rather than a number.
